Existentialism and the meaning of life. The main philosophical issue that is raised in this movie, is existentialism and the meaning of life.
I Heart Huckabees is about a man named Albert Schwartzman who had a series of coincidences which found him running into the same man three different times at three different locations.
This then led him to hire Existential Detectives who followed him in his daily life to get to the bottom of this. Bernard Hoffmanan existential detective, used a white blanket to explain some initial theories to Albert.
He portrayed to Albert that everyone is connected and everyone is the same. He said that everyone and everything in the universe appears different, but are all in fact the same and connected.
This then got me to thinking about God, and how, if you believe in God, then you would believe that we are all connected somehow, someway and it all started some time ago. This then leads to the question; do you have to believe in God to have meaning to your life? The following still image is from a scene in I Heart Huckabees where Bernard gets Albert to get inside this big black bag, where he closes his eyes and images of his life flash before him.
Bernard is getting Albert to let go of the daily grind so he can find his own true meaning of life and make sense of his coincidences. Another article was read and it was found that it made statements that support the themes and issues in I Heart Huckabees.
